About Staffer
Staffer is an AI-native hiring platform with two sides: recruiters and candidates. We are building the next era of hiring tools: an assistant that works across the full hiring process. It takes a hiring brief, searches for the right people, builds the shortlist, and runs the outreach. At each stage it recommends the next best step. It automates the slow parts of hiring, so a recruiter spends less time per hire and makes better decisions.
We are compliant with the next era of hiring rules, because we build for high volume and for enterprise customers.
We want hiring to be fairer and more transparent, for candidates and for recruiters. Each release moves the product further towards a process that runs on its own.
The role
This is a full-stack role, with primary responsibility for the backend and the infrastructure. You own that half of the system: how we build it, how it runs, and how reliable it is. You also work on the frontend and ship product features.
Today the team is you and the CTPO, and you share the work. The CTPO leans towards product and frontend. You lean towards backend and infrastructure. We hire more engineers as we need them, and you help to shape that team. The autonomy is high: you decide what makes the product faster, safer and more reliable.
What you own
Backend and data. The database, the tenancy model and the data integrity of the product. Migrations, performance and correctness.
Infrastructure. Cloud infrastructure as code. Safe, boring deploys. Clear rules for environments and config.
The data pipeline. We bring in external data at volume, process it, and make it searchable. This is our most complex subsystem, and you are its owner.
Background jobs. The async work behind the product: AI interviews, compliance flows, rescoring and billing.
Reliability. We have error tracking and alerts today. We do not have full observability yet. That gap is yours to close, in the way you think is best.
Security and compliance. Access control, tenant isolation, audit trails, and the data-protection flows we must support.
Product features. You ship features end to end. The backend is your primary domain.
We look for

Strong backend, infrastructure and DevOps experience.

Good TypeScript, and experience in a pnpm monorepo.

Relational databases in production: multi-tenancy, migrations and data integrity. Postgres RLS is a plus.

Infrastructure as code, and a managed cloud. GCP is a plus.

Data pipelines, event-driven systems and async jobs.

Care for reliability and observability as real work.

The ability to turn a vague goal into a shipped improvement.

Clear communication. High autonomy needs good signal.
Also useful: ClickHouse or another column store, vector search and embeddings, GDPR or another regulated domain, Stripe or usage-based billing, Auth.js and session security, some Python, and early-stage experience.
